We went out this morning with a drone to video our hunts. It was awesome! We’ll have more videos from that soon but here’s a section we found that highlights the behavior of rabbits out in the field.

My sponsor would always say, “If you’re bird dives on a rabbit, don’t move. Wait to hear the scream that means the bird actually caught it. 9 times out 10, you’ll hear the rabbit scream. If you don’t, then just wait for the bird to get back up in a tree because if you take another step, you’re likely to scare a second rabbit up while the bird is out of position.”

We found this section of Thorin diving on a rabbit, and look what we saw when we played the video from the drone…

I smacked myself in the forehead!

Update: there were actually TWO rabbits that slipped away on the right side of the screen while I was moving to Thorin on the ground. We saw it as we watched more of the drone footage. And then, about two minutes later, one rabbit came back. Ugh…
